Saint-Gobain Boron Nitride offers many products based on hexagonal boron nitride (hBN). It is a synthetic ceramic with many unique properties that make it useful in applications like thermal management, industrial lubrication, and molten metal and ceramic processing. Understanding its structure-property relationships and the various shapes, sizes, and compositions we offer can help you choose the right solution for your needs.
During synthesis, small crystals of hBN form and grow into platelets. At the atomic level, each platelet is made up of many layers of boron and nitrogen atoms bonded in a hexagonal pattern. Though the B-N bonds within each layer, or plane, are covalent, only weak Van der Waals forces hold the layers together. This unique crystal structure, very similar to that of graphite, plays a role in many properties of hBN.
Saint-Gobain’s leadership position comes from our drive to work collaboratively with our customers. With our team of technical experts and application engineers, along with our world-class R&D facilities, we create sophisticated solutions to solve customers’ pain points. Our state-of-the-art ISO 9001:2008 manufacturing process certified and ISO 14001 environmental management certified facility in Amherst, New York is dedicated solely to the production and fine-tuning of hexagonal boron nitride materials for customers around the world.
