BN delivers both high thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion, an excellent combination for high temperature refractory applications where thermal shock is an issue. The ease with which hot-pressed BN can be machined into intricate shapes with narrow tolerances leads to its widespread use in high temperature applications such as furnace construction, ceramic manufacturing and molten metal processing.
With a dielectric strength much greater than alumina, BN is an excellent low loss insulator. BN is also an outstanding dielectric cooling filler for polymer compounds used in LED lighting, electronic assemblies and power devices, as well as a superior P-type dopant for semiconductor manufacturing.
BN -- thanks to its extreme lubricity, oxidation resistance and non-abrading properties -- is ideal as a release agent in light-metal processing and as a lubricant additive in dynamic friction materials for high-performance automotive and aerospace applications.
BN is chemically inert, non-toxic and lubricious because of its distinct morphology. In fact, it's so safe, it is a key ingredient in color cosmetics and skin care products and is a preferred non-contact food-grade lubricant additive.
